Apple set to release iPhone 16

As rumours finally start flying four months before a rumoured September date for Apple’s long-6 Pro.

we could be looking at the most artificially intelligent iPhones yet, according to sources. The iPhone 15 series was basically an evolution of the iPhone 14, an iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max

These are the things that usually change each cycle – a few extras, battery improvements, a camera iteration, USB-C, an action button, and an iPhone 14 Titanium, as well as the Telstra special of adding ‘Wow’ or ‘5G’ to the name. The iPhone 16, the iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will see significant evolution.

But when Apple hosts its Worldwide Developers Conference in early June, the company is expected to unveil a raft of new AI-powered features for the company’s iOS operating system – and the iPhone 16’s marquee features should be on display there as well.

In the meantime, leaks and rumours emerge regularly each week. Rumours about the next smartphone began long before the iPhone 15 was even released, and some of them appeared to be true. Here, we list all the iPhone 16 leaks; rumours about release date and specs, price and design.

Latest Apple iPhone 16 Rumors

Apple is targeting the iPhone 16 Pro Max to have the longest battery life of any iPhone ever released. According to an unnamed high-ranking Apple official who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

This would build on the 2022 release of the iPhone 15 Pro Max, and the gains Apple is expected to make for the iPhone 16 Pro Max will come with a slight boost to energy density and no increase in physical size, beating out the battery life of the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Apple is also rumoured to make the iPhone 16 Pro’s display brighter. On a Chinese blog called Weibo, a leaker named Instant Digital said that the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max could get a 1,200 nits display, which is 20 per cent brighter than the iPhone 15 Pro’s 1,000 nits, and is definitely noticeable increase.

Apple iPhone 16 Release Date

And it’s easy to find out about Apple’s release dates. You can pretty much guarantee that the tech firm will announce its new smartphones on a Tuesday or Wednesday in the first fortnight of September. iPhone 15 release date: Tuesday, September 5, 2023 iPhone 14 release date: Wednesday, September 7, 2022 iPhone 13 release date: Tuesday, September 14, 2021

Pre-orders are set to begin the following Friday with general availability a week later. So make a note: we’re expecting the iPhone 16 to be announced the first or second week of September, with a release date probably on either 13 or 20 September.

Apple iPhone 16 Price

Every September, there is a prediction for an increase in the price of an iPhone. Only in 2022 in the UK, the iPhone 14 had a price almost doubled price of the previous model and for the previous year they predicted the same for the iPhone 15. And they were wrong, the normal iPhone 15 Pro Max is still the same price as the previous iPhone.

Today, rumours have it that there are no official leaks regarding the price of the iPhone 16, but prices can officially go up one day.

Nikkei Asia reported that the manufacturing cost of the iPhone 15 was substantially more expensive than the cost of assembling the iPhone 14, and that Apple had absorbed the additional costs rather than passing them to the consumer.

If Apple maintains this trajectory, the iPhone 16 could cost £799, the iPhone 16 Plus £899, the iPhone 16 Pro £999, and the iPhone 16 Pro Max £1,199.

Apple iPhone 16 Design and Display

Rumours suggest the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max boast bigger screens. The digital analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has said the iPhone 16 Pro will have ‘slightly larger screen sizes’ to better accommodate for a new periscope camera system. And, Ross Young of product insight and predictive analytics company Display Supply Chain Consultants recently leaked that the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max will feature aspect ratios of 6.3 inches and 6.9 inches respectively.

The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will offer the same dimensions as they currently do, at 6.1 inches and 6.7 inches, according to CCS Insight. Analyst Danni Ha accompanied these claim with dummy images, which is an indication that somebody has mocked up presentations about Cashes upcoming iPhones for Apple’s marketing department). According to this draft, Apple will include larger displays on its Pro models and the same size for the non-Pro models.

And the new generation of iPhones – the iPhone 16 line-up – is likely to offer full-screen, a feat made possible by the evolution of display technology. The OLED displays could feature micro-lens technology, which uses curved screens to reduce its thickness and improve brightness and power utilisation.

All models will get the action button from the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, which should be capacitive touch. Since the iPhone loses the volume buttons with the return of ProMotion, there’s also talk of an all-new capture button that’s easier to use for quick video recording, presumably on all models.

The base iPhone 16 could have a new camera array design, with the cameras placed vertically rather than diagonally The iPhone 16 could come in seven different colours, including white and purple in addition to yellow, blue, green, black, and pink.

Apple iPhone 16 Specs

Specifications for the iPhone 16 are under wraps at this point (though analyst Jeff Pu claims that all four iPhone 16 models will feature the new A18 chip). The A18 should work its way into the iPhone 16 as well as the iPhone 16 Plus, though the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max could end up with the beefier A18 Pro chip with more cores and an improved neural engine for enhanced AI features.

Apple is also said to be fixing the classic sign of the iPhone 15’s overheating issue with iPhone 16 models due to have a graphene-based thermal management system. The iPhone 16 Pro models should have Wi-Fi 7 and the regular iPhone 16 and 16 Plus will have Wi-Fi 6E.

Given their use of stacked battery technology (which allows much more battery capacity to be fitted into the same form factor) and possible support for faster wireless charging, the new models are likely to be much erecter than their predecessors.

Apple iPhone 16 Features

At Apple’s WWDC conference in June, the public will learn more about the iPhone 16, which should be announced along with iOS 18. That new iOS version is rumoured to have a host of AI features, including a revamped Siri with a large language model, AI-powered playlist generation in Apple Music, and AI tools in apps such as Keynote, Messages and Xcode.

However, it helps that these AI features will likely be on-device rather than cloud-based, which helps with speed and privacy.

Apple iPhone 16 Cameras

It is rumoured that the iPhone 16 Pro could include a 48MP ultra-wide camera (changed from 12MP ultra-wide camera on the iPhone 15 Pro), and both the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max might use a 12x telephoto.

Furthermore, the iPhone 16 Pro variants will include the extremely sophisticated tetraprism telephoto lens that’s found only on the iPhone 15 Pro Max, enabling up to 5x zoom. Apple is testing an anti-reflective optical coating that could be applied to future Pro models (for better results against lens flare and glare).
